Summary of Products and Services:
Bomb Calorimeters:
We offer a complete range of bomb calorimeters from Parr Instrument Company. These calorimeters are designed to measure the Calorific Value of materials such as coals, biofuels and many others.
Our units are suitable for teaching labs, research and high through put industry use. Each unit comes with comprehensive training and installation. The oxygen combustion bomb can be constructed of various alloys to accommodate combustion of virtually all corrosive materials.
Ultrasonics:
Hielscher Ultrasonics supply ultrasonic devices from lab homogenizers to industrial processing reactors. Typical applications include, mixing and homogenizing, disintegration and sonochemistry.
These units cover the full range from sample homogenizing in the lab to the ultrasonication of large volumes in industrial production. Whether you need to sonicate 1.5mL in a test tube or 20 tons per hour, Hielscher offers you the perfect solution for it.
Thermal Analysis:
The Seiko (SIINT) range of Thermal Analysers is one of the most comprehensive in the UK. This includes Thermo Gravimetric Analysers (TGA and TG/DTA) for low mass and high mass samples, Differential Scanning Calorimeters (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analysers (DMA) and Thermal Mechanical Analyser with Stress Strain (TMA-SS). Each system is available with various heating and cooling accessories as well as auto-samplers.
X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometers (ED-XRF and WD-XRF):
SciMed offers the widest laboratory based range of XRF Spectrometers available in the UK. These cover both the Energy Dispersive and Wavelength Dispersive types. Some are optimised for elemental mapping, while others are for coating thickness analysis. Some have been designed to run large samples and for RoHS testing. There are also on line xrf analysers available. A number of others will be for standard liquid, pellets, loose powder or fused bead analysis. A dedicated division of SciMed has been set up to oversee our extensive XRF Product range. Please visit our dedicated ED-XRF and WD-XRF website www.scimed-xrf.co.uk.
Powder Flow:
The Range of Ring Shear Testers by Pr Schulze are purpose built for Powder Flow characterisation. Powder Flow Properties form an important part of the required characterisation of bulk powder handling but also for formulation purposes. The RST-XS and RST_01.pc are based upon the science developed by Jenike and Carr. This is the only truly scientific method for powder flow characterisation.
Supercritical Fluids (Supercritical CO2):
SciMed offers a comprehensive range of solutions for Supercritical CO2 applications. From components such as CO2 pumps, back pressure regulators, vessels and view cells, all the way to complete purpose built systems and rigs, there is a solution for every requirement. The applications covered are all non-SFC which include: supercritical extraction (SCF or SFE), Supercritical Reactions, Particle formation (RESS Rapid Expansion of Supercritical Solution and Solvent anti-Solvent GAS or SAS). The systems can be small research systems, pilot scale or full production systems.
Pressure Vessels:
Parr Instrument Company have been a leader in the design and manufacture of high pressure laboratory pressure vessels and we at SciMed are proud to have been their UK and Ireland distributor for over 30 years. These vessels range in volume from 25ml up to 20L and are available in both stirred and non-stirred configurations. The autoclaves as well as the magnetic coupled drives are manufactured as standard in 316 stainless steel but other alloys such as Hastelloy C276, Monel 400, Inconel 600 and Titanium are commonly used. Parr also manufacture tubular flow through reactors and custom designed systems to meet the needs of the modern day scientist.
Hand Held Raman:
RAMAN Spectroscopy is a well recognised method for characterisation. Typical RAMAN applications include: incoming/outgoing materials inspection and certification; online/at-line detector for Process Analytical Technology (PAT); physical/chemical properties of polymers (molecular weight, viscosity, glass transition temperature, etc.); petroleum product identification and analysis; as well as the identification of resins, petrochemicals, and commodity chemicals. Examples of RAMAN applications include: non-destructive drug or chemical identification with preservation of evidence; identification of explosives; trace forensic analysis of fibers, hair, pigments, ink, fabrics, etc.; as well as solvents and bulk materials identification. Mining, Minerals and Geology: Common RAMAN applications include: non-destructive identification of geological materials; authentification and anti-counterfeiting of gemstones; origin identification of minerals and gemstones; and the evaluation of mining prospects and alteration minerology. Biological Sciences: RAMAN delivers in situ, non-contact, non-destructive measurement of tissue samples; intracellular chemical mapping; lipid content quantization in algae for biofuels; bacteria detection; and with optional Surface Enhanced RAMAN Spectroscopy (SERS), low level biological threat detection is also available. Food Safety and Agriculture: from port of entry inspections, to testing for pesticides and herbicides, to field audits for bacterial or chemical contamination, handheld RAMAN spectroscopy has proven itself as an invaluable analytical tool for everyday use
Reaction Calorimetery:
SciMed offer the range of reaction calorimeters from Chemisens. The CPA202 was the first reaction calorimeter to work on the True Heat Flow principle where all heat that either enters or leaves the reaction vessel is via a heat flow transducer on the vessel base. This allows for calibration free and real time measurement of the chemical reaction power. This apparatus is available with a wide range of accessories to enable an accurate and true investigation of the chemical process being studied.
Adiabatic Calorimetery:
Fauske and Associates were the lead company in the initial DIERS vent sizing program and SciMed are pleased to offer both the VSP2 (Vent Sizing Package) and the ARSST (Advanced Reactive System Screening Tool) that they have subsequently developed for this safety testing field. Both of these pieces of apparatus allow the runaway study of chemical systems under conditions near to a Phi-factor of 1 allowing directly scalable experiments to be performed. Also SciMed offer Fauske’s comprehensive range of safety testing including dust testing, adiabatic calorimetery and reaction calorimetery.
